The New Company Religion - from Hell!

When will they learn that all management fads have a limited life! There are no "silver bullets" and no substitutes for good smart work. Worse yet is when some consultant tries to evangelize the workforce into believing in some "new religion" replete with its own rituals, icons, and Bibles. It's all intended to convince the masses that their attitudes about pay cuts, grueling schedules and idiot managers are wrongminded. God forbid (the real one)that anyone ever gets on the wrong side of one of these "prophets" by having an original thought or by daring to even question the doctrine. Remember the Spanish inquisition? What an insult to the intelligence of employees and good managers.
Successful organizations innovate. They are honest with their workforce and respect divergent opinions. They do not need to use goofy gimmicks and play games with employees' psyches.
In fact, there is really only one thing that all successful organizations have in common - they are successful. Excerpted from "160 Degrees of Deviation: The Case for the Corporate Cynic."

I totally agree. My last company spend millions on some stupid program that was meant to convince folks they needed to be more "accountable" for their actions. After a year of brainwashing, they scrapped it and no one even mentions the program any more.

Every 4 years the education system chooses to focus on something "new" or rather new methods to do old things. Sometimes writing is the focus, sometimes reading, sometimes H.O.T.S. (Higher Order Thinking Skills) Do you like the acronym?

Anyways, 4 years pass, it becomes a thing of the past--for any major changes to take place--especially in such a huge city--it takes more than 4 years.

We call this "same shit, different bowl."

Is anyone familiar with the "Phish" philosophy? It made absolutely no sense. I had an office manager post that damnn thing on a hallway bulletin board. Things on it "choose your attitude", "play", "have fun", nothing to do with fish at all. All the while she rammed this downn our throats and used it as an excuse to make our lives an even worse living hell. Hipocrisy at its pinnacle....

I have always thought this! At my last job I got in trouble because I was vocal about not subscribing to their stupid new program. The program was just a new spin on absolutely common sense principles and new words for common courtesy. But they presented it a way that expected this to be your new religion---OR ELSE! We had to take 8 week training sessions on the program. I used to make comments that we're all going to go to the airport after the session and pass out flowers ala Hare Krishnas.

They also had a thing called 100% true CAP (I only remember the A stood for accountability). Anyway I used to say 100% pure CRAP. It was awful and they spent tons of money on propaganda---including laminated tags to wear around our necks that included a bulleted list of the new principles! WTF?

Finally about a year later the guy who brought the program into the company moved on to another position. AFter all that money was spent and all that time spent in training, the program was completely done a way with and no one spoke of it again!

The program was called Malandro. I shuddered as I typed that.

Does anyone know what the work Malandro means?

Corporate Ladder Rung: VPavid reader (03/15/2007)
bigblue: Yeah it is just the last name of the lady who started the program. Loretta Malandro. Google her. Yuck!!!

I should have guessed! The pompousness of some shouldn't amaze me anymore. I deserve a big kick.

If companies spent all that money on raises instead they would not need another stupid program.

Amen, animus!
