Valley View nursing home in Williamsport PA is DEATH VALLEY VIEW!

I am an LPN with +25 years of experience that is tired of nursing home neglect!
One nursing home I worked for called Valley View, in my home town of Williamsport Pennsylvania, is definatley one of the worst nursing homes in the state if not THE worst nursing home in the entire country. Though I might add that the Manorcare nursing home which I have heard horror stories about, that is also here in Williamsport, comes in a close second. There is no doubt that in my professional opinion that Valley View is without a doubt "Death Valley View" to all elderly people who enter!
I worked there for over five years until I resigned due to the fact I could no longer tolerate and "look the other way" at the blatent neglect of the elderly patients by the staff. This neglect, or more specifically "MURDER" that the staff at Valley View gets away with is something I just will not keep quite about. The things that I saw were "criminal", to say the least, and every one just looked the other way and acted desensitized about what was clearly happening. Some examples: I'd begin my shift and would find elderly people sprawled out on the floor who were on the floor for "hours", people who did not get there medication, people with dinner from the day before smeared and hardening on there faces, people who came in the place whole and fine but left without limbs from daily beatings and assalts and getting potent staff infections in open wounds from the filthy unsanitary bath tubs, people who were assalted and abused and ignored by the staff on a regular basis, and worst of all on many occasions right before a patient was to be discharged to go home they would end up DEAD, and I could go on and on listing what this place calls "nursing care".
I could not believe the lies that were told to family members who inquired as to why their loved one had last nights dinnner crusting all over there face and in their hair and all over their chests. Or lies about the many bruses their loved one had from being assalted and then left on the floor all night long. Of course the staff would be gossiping non-stop at the front desk and in the mean time HELP buzzers were going off left and right and were unanswered because clearly a cry for help was not as "important" to them as the gossip about all the cute drunk guys at the multitude of local Willamsport bars the staff would "frequently" go to.
The shock of families finding their loved one had passed away "suddenly" in the night who were to be discharged that week or even that same day was all too "frequent" at this Death Valley View. It was clearly all too convienient for Valley View when the loved one would "pass away" when a family was about to take the Valley View nursing home to court, or the family complained about neglect just one too many times to the Head Nurse. My husband who has been a lawyer for 28 years here in Williamsport has told me on more than one occasion that, "It's hard to prove they are killing them, plus most judges are on the take from these nursing homes, and these judges don't let the cases see the light of day, and cases are "dead on arrival" more than these elderly people they are murdering, and the judges are accomplaces to murder after the fact." As a trained nurse I am certain foul play is rampant and is still going on to this day in this terrible nursing home. As my wonderful husband has on more than one occasion lovingly advised me, it is clearly an uphill battle to expose their corruption not to mention expose their negligent homocide and/or murder and to nail the corrupt judges in the name of "justice".
Before I resigned I made copies of many specific medical files and reports, I even created a large file of photographs that I took of many cases of neglect, and I have spoken to many families about there loved ones who had untimely deaths and who were clearly abused and neglected. I am also in the process of having certain corrupt judges "investigated" as to who is "paying them off" to kill these cases in hopes of having them disbarred and brought to justice. My husband who is an excellent lawyer is a realist about the uphill battle, but he also encourages me and is my greatest support and strength in my endeavor to expose this Valley View "nursing home", or as I call it Death Valley View.
I have also been praying for the good elderly people who are in Valley View, plus I have been praying that this nursing home be shut down for the betterment of my town of Willamsport Pennsylvania, not to mention the betterment of the world and what health care and caring for our elder citizens represents and what it should be all about. You might say Al Capone had Elliot Ness and Valley View has me.
For all who read this your prayers and support will be very much appreciated, and with God's help Williamsport PA will not go down in history as a "terrible place" for our elderly, disabled, handicapped, and mentally challenged citizens who seek "care". God helps those who help them selves, but those who cause harm to those who can not help them selves are truly evil. Valley View, Manorcare, and all incompetent nursing homes should be ashamed of what they are doing in the eyes of God, and I will not stop in my battle to shame and stop those who are worse than terrorists to the elderly, disabled, and handicapped, and mentally challenged people of this world!
Sincerely,
Nurse Whistleblower LPN
Williamsport, PA

very concerned (06/22/2007)
You are doing the right thing by becoming vocal. You should most definately alert the media about this. Have you seen this site http://www.complaint.tv The site allows you to send your story directly to your local media stations. Good luck and God Bless

where is your board of health in these matters? it can close down any facility. what about your medicaid auditors...they also tour the facilities unannounced.

What a joke! I can not believe you would even post such a thing Nurse Whistleblower! If it was so bad why did you stay there for 5 years and you never got the police involved if you were so suspicious? Your story is absolutely rediculous! And how stupid to say that you made copies of files and took pictures for your records! Thats a good way to get yourself in trouble, but since your a nurse I would think you know about HIPAA and patient confidentiality and the patients have to sign a consent form to be photographed! Not to mention if your husband is a lawyer he would never encourage this behavior!

Not right (11/25/2008)
You should be charged as an accessory for staying there 5 years and not doing anything about it. How could you look in the mirror every day knowing someone's father, husband, etc was abused like that. You are as guilty as the rest of them.

Great job! You are a hero and never forget it! I hope that place is investigated and or shut down thanks to your wonderful efforts! Nail those elder abusers!!!! God Bless you!!!!

I have my doubts whether the person that wrote this is who she says she is or even has a husband that is an attorney. Why? Because Valley View and staff killed my father. I went to the District Attorney. I called Mayor Capelli. I tried to stop the hideous cruel murder of my wonderful, loving, fully conscious father. I had witnesses who worked there. I will post my story later as right now I am too emotional to go any further. All I will say is it was murder any way you look at it and yes there is a law against what they did, but this practice is so rampant throughout the nation that people just turn their heads and ignore it. The cause of death on my father's certificate was #1 "accidental stroke" and #2 "complications from pneumonia". Actually they "snowed" him with morphine. Oh, one more thing---it's legal is Pennsylvania to kill someone with morphine, which suppresses the breathing, if the patient is in pain. Have you ever been short of breath to the point where it hurts to try and get a breath? This can happen when you've been on oxygen for a number of years and then when you are admitted to a nursing home and for some reason, all of the sudden, the attending physician doesn't order your everyday supply. Instead she orders morphine to ease the pain of trying to breathe. It's all legal and anyone who says it's not happening is a part of the problem, not the solution. Wake up America, wake up Williamsport!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmmmm (05/10/2009)
wow......just wow. you worked there this long and never said anything until now?? hmmmmmm

Williamsport Nurse (07/13/2009)
This story is crazy!!! I have worked long term care, and yes there are issues in every nursing home, however, not to the extent that you are saying. I think you are angry about your work experience there and not coping with it very well. As far as your husband being an attorney and letting you work there....hard to believe. The judges in Lycoming county.....no way. You need to get out of nursing.

This report answered my questions. The moment you suspect foul play, pack up your loved ones and take them home, then find a truly caring place.

another nurse (08/22/2009)
I've been a nurse in LTC for 19 years. Yes this does go on, it's accepted as the norm. Most of these people are thrown away and if you aren't on top of your loved ones care everyday and in their faces, they will be neglected at best. There is nothing you can do about it, if you say anything you will be fired. All you can do is the best you can. They are all the same, I've never seen a good nursing home. They are understaffed, overworked, burned out, run by people who hide everything that goes wrong (because they don't want to lose their jobs) and uneducated nurse aids that neglect and abuse the patients. Keep your family members home.

ex employee (09/16/2009)
I am an ex employee. I'm not saying all is true here but alot is. They do have a lot of great employees there, but generally get fired for "little things". The ones that don't seem to care about people don't seem to have trouble keeping their jobs. It's sad and maybe someone reading this knows what to do with the information.

Ok let me step in here. You have heard stories about Manor Care who comes close to second. Let me speak up. I worked at manorcare for a year. And I wouldn't send my dog there. That place is a dump. Residents are sooo neglected there. Sit is wet and dirty breif's for hours. It is as many of us call it "Manor Care". It was nothing for 1 aide to have between 12-18 residents a piece. I have been at Valley View for 3 months now, and I have to say that what you are saying is just crazy. Something is wrong with you. Valley View is Heaven compared to Manor Care. And I am someone who has a look at it from both sides of the fence.

And to haunted forever. It is a common procedure for people who are in pain to receive Roxanol which is a type of morphine. Especially when they are in a great deal pain. If he was expected to not make it, then comfort measures come in. 90% of people who have a loved one in a LTC facility always cry murder when their loved one dies, especially if it is unexpected. Elderly die unexpected all of the time. It's a part of life. It may be due to bad care and it may not.

Nurse Aide (11/22/2009)
I am just letting a couple of the ones that commented on valley view and manor care, I have worked at both places and to say the least valley view and manor care are equal to each other in the aspects of not taking care of the residents there. I am also a volunteer firefighter and emt and have picked up more then enough patients from both places due to falls that were not reported and broken arms or wrists as well as falls that end up with head trauma. You go on and say that one is wrong and the other is right just because you worked at one and then the other well i am here to let you know that as far as this goes I was an aide in both places and I saw what happend to a lot of the residents there and I no longer will work in nursing homes due to what I have seen. I made reports of neglect and got no where at the homes. I would not even put my own parents in those homes. I would wrather take care of them my self which in most cases if not all cases the family should take the responsibility of that member into their own hands. I only see nurses being either rns or lpns commenting on all this but no cnas like me. I am a male and have been a cna for 9 yrs and still going strong with it. But i will not ever work in a home where i see abuse and neglect. so in short comment on mine since i am an aide and see where it gets ya if you dont like what you read. but know this the aides are the ones that see more then what the nurses see.

I have worked in nursing homes for many years. I familiar with all of these problems. I must admit that if the nursing homes could keep enough staff and not have to work short or mandate, things would get better. I have worked under staffed on many occasions. There were many of times I could barely walk when I left work- just to come in the next day to hear about someone's nails not being clipped! How can clipped everyone's nails when you have 20 residents to take care.No one can understand it until they live it. This is why nurses suffer from back injuries and etc. The whole health care system is really bad. Everyone suffers. It all boils down to money. If plenty is available, then options of screening, hiring, and better care can and will happen. The company will benefit. The residents will have proper care and the employee's will stay.

Once A CNA (07/21/2010)
I also worked there, back in the 90's. HOW TRUE this is!! A resident could have a dropped Blood Pressure, or Labored Breathing, right away they think they r going to die. Phone calls are made to a Physician, who with out seeing the residents makes medical dessions over a phone. Other problems would arrise in a resident due to a far or other health issues, and for some reason if they started to take a turn for the worst, out comes the Morhipne!! This does take their lives by sllowing their heart rates. Whar get me, how can this be legal?? NO doctor ever shows up to do an evaluation!! This is so wrong, that id why I got out of this place and all another place I worked. Where is the justice for those who can't speak for themselves. I came home from work crying, they are like your own family. I hope GOD hears your words and I am sure he will. He wil see that justice gets served. Keep on going with this. Don't give up.

Interesting (07/21/2010)
WOW, you hit the nail on the head with this one. There are several of these homes around. I have tons of family, friends, and others who have had loved ones in that place. They all died and their death was suspicous. They are tring to get to the bottom of it all. I worked in nursing homes and yes they do give Morhine to slow their heart rate, so they do die. THIS IS MURDER!! This can't be right or legal. They would give small amounts of it to them every so many hours. The RNs and LPNs would tell us it won't be long now. When we question this, they informed us they don't stand a chance, they won't make it anyway. SAY WHAT!!!!!!! Since when are you a doctor?? No Physician ever showed up to do his or her own evaluations on the residents. How do you make a complete diagnois without coming to see the resident. This always bugged me terribly. I quit after some years of service. I got tired of going home from work crying. I loved me job and my residents, they were like our own family, except for those who could care less. But yes this all true. I will argue the point till the day I die. It is not fair. Just think about this being done to your father, mother, brother, sister or a loved one. Please follow through with this by all means. You have my support!! God Bless You
