Bizzaro Meeting

We had our quarterly meeting with our CIO and Controller (I tried to get out of it but couldn't). I tell you that it was a three-ring circus. I talked to a friend/co-worker today just to compare my thoughts because I could not believe what I saw and heard.

1) The (In)Security Group came into the meeting in suits - all of them! One of the first things I thought was that they were kissing up - my friend confirmed. She said she had never seen someone so blatantly sucking up. She said others noticed and laughed at them as well.

2) The Controller said that we may get a 2% raise in 08/09 budget - MAY!!! What I heard from another HR division that it is more like 0%. When I was told this from Corr HR I asked if it was just for Corr and she said "no - it is across the whole organization." I got this information freely and without asking for it. My friend said she had heard the same thing as well.

3) To continue with the budget the next budget year (09/10), dependent upon the economy, may result in layoffs. One of the questions asked of the Controller was if they are going to lay off according to seniority. The COntroller said that he has full confidence in our CIO and his management staff will be making the proper decision. My friend stated that they will choose who they want and don't want regardless. My friend is concerned because she is also not well liked in the our organization.

4) ne of my fellow employees I files a complaint against and our "glorified ticket pusher" abd chief brown-noser/enemy/weasle were sitting VERY close ... During the meeting I noticed that these two were sitting SO close I thought that they were sitting in each other's lap!!! I kept looking and looking. I looked at others as well and didn't see ANYONE THAT close!!! I almost felt that if they were any closer that they should get a room! My friend aaid "What's with THAT?!?" She noticed it as well. I told her that I have a few female friends including her but as much as I like her I wouldn't be sitting THAT close - to ANYONE! I wonder if anyone else noticed? These two seemingly love-birds are married to other people.

Overall, it doesn't look good for me - 0% raise and on the two-ply list. I feel that I would be one of the first ones to be let go. I have been looking hard for another job but it's dead out there! I am not looking to make a lateral move - why? It would be for less money. I can't see making LESS having an advanced degree! I am only 14.5% of the population in this state with an advanced degree. I am even willing to move!

I did bave a call last night for an interview in Dallas ... next time I am in the Dallas area ... like I'll be making THAT trip anytime soon.

Dumber than a Catbox full of sh*t (04/15/2008)
#2--low raise or no raise--been there, done that. But in the current economic situation I wouldn't be vocal about it.

#3--your friend is right--they will use this as an opportunity to sh*tcan anyone they do not like.

#4 Affair.

Keep smilin'--even if it kills you. Because being unemployed is worse. Good Luck!

Oh I was told ZERO - so why lie about it?!? But that is what they are so very good at - lying!

Yup! But guess what department is doing all the a$$ kissing?!? Also guess what department is getting all the raises and promotions?!? Our Security Group! But everyone else is facing cuts! Some think that our CIO is willingly giving them anything they want and to find ways to can people.

#4 Affair.

It sure looks like it to me! And to think this is the very same woman that I filed a complaint againt, that was trying to make a 'joke' about ME having an affair! Of course that pissed me off to no end - and her (lover) buddy giveing me the crap work no one else will take - as revenge!

Update ---

I talked to another friend/co-worker regarding my observations - all my thoughts were confirmed. (not sure about the affair thing that Cat mentioned).

Of course everyone made comments about our (in)Security Group showing off their being self-impotent ... I mean self-importance. Others are laughing at them as well - So I guess it didn't go off they way they were hoping! It sure seemed like a limp way to try to get attention.

I have seen this in action, at my last job I was one of the first people hired in the IT dept and worked with a guy who was hired a month after me. After seven years of service we got a BFH (boss from h___) who brought two "yes ma'am's" with her. The company had to do a 'across the board' layoff and in most departments it was 'last hired - first fired' which is sad but fair. In our department, even though my old co-worker NEVER had a bad review, he was let go and he and I figured out that it was because he did not 'suck up' to the boss. In a few cases, it seemed that the only reason some people were let go was because they had over 15 years of service which meant four weeks of vacation.

Fortunately my friend landed a much better job when he left.
