Blessings

A co-worker/friend recieved a dreaded phone call yesterday. Her brother is in the hospital - brain-dead! Granted he was not in the best of health and that several months ago was attacked and recieved a injury to the head. The doctors wondered how he survived after the severity of the attack!

Well my friend lives paycheck to paycheck as a single mother (whos ex won't pay a dime!) of two sons, and trying to keep a house over her head (mortgage). She bought a plane ticket to see her brother for possibly the last time. It took every cent she had just for the ticket, leaving her with nothing to survive on while she is there (NY).

As a result, one of the contractors gave her $100 which is a strain on his budget and I gave $200. I had to push her to find out what she would need while she will be there and she told me $300.

To my knowledge, our supervisor didn't do a thing other than give her the time off! It is amaizing that it was a couple of her co-workers who came to the rescue!

I am not concerned of getting the money back because I know I will in time. But what I will gain is a better friend in the long run! I am a firm believer of Karma. I have seen it in action even though it may take time - it DOES come around!

Bookwoman (10/17/2008) I'm sorry to hear of your friend's family trouble. What a good friend you are to be so supportive of her at a time that is so difficult for her. I believe in karma too. Doesn't matter if I'm there to see it, I know what goes around comes around. I once had a boss some years back who threw me completely under the bus. He was the director of HR for the county government offices. A couple years after both he and I had moved on, there was a big to-do all over the front page of the local papers, for days, about how he'd gone along and even helped arrange secret meetings between a couple county government officicals, in direct flaunting of the local sunshine laws. His reputation, which was everything to him, was dragged through the mud, a truly effective punishment for him. It was great. Hope things get better for your friend. dontask 0 (10/18/2008) At least the supervisor gave her "time off" without grumbling or other tactless comments. This is one of the few occasion when I agree with taking up the infamous in-office collection and fill a big yellow office envelope with checks and money. Supervisors pressure us to contribute to charities of their choice and birthdays, weddings, baby showers, etc and lets not forget the ever popular United Way Fund Drive (pfft), but unscheduled emergencies only inconvenience them.
