Totally Out Of Left Field - What's Your Favorite Pizza?

For some reason I am craving Pizza, Papa Johns is running a special (I don't work for them nor do I have stock in them) where you can buy a large pizza for regular price and then add a cheese pizza for a quarter.

You HAVE to do this on line and you can elect to pick it up to save cost.

I ordered my favorite pizza over the weekend along with a regular cheese pizza for the two legged varmits at my house.

My favorite is:

No Sauce, Cheese, Bacon, Sausage, Beef

Everyone makes fun of me when I order this and then THEY ALL EAT MY PIZZA and not there on!

I like hot italian sausage! And if it's not hot I sprinle it with crushed red pepper! But bad for me my wife can't eat pork or anything too hot ... boring to me. So I use a lot of crushed red pepper!

Best pizza ever. South Beach Cafe, in San Francisco, 2 blocks from PacBell Park.

They serve pizza as it was originally made. All pizzas are "personal" size. The first Neapolitan pizzas made in Italy were like this, not like the ubiquitous large pan pizzas nowadays.

And unlike modern pizzas, the pizzas aren't overdone with toppings (again, this is like the original pizzas you get in Italy). Brushed with tomato paste and olive oil, sprinkled with a few cheeses and a few slices of whatever meat. Nothing exotic, like pineapples with ham. The crust is thick and crunchy, as if baked in those Italian ovens.

The only drawback is that the pizzas aren't very big so you might still be hungry after one pizza.

Having eaten pizza from every outlet, from Pizza Hut to Mountain Mikes, from pizzarias in the West Coast to the East coast, I still find South Beach Cafe's pizza the best I ever had.

Not too many good Pizza places where I live other than the chains. We have Little Ceasers (eh), Hungry Howies (actually pretty good), Dominos (eh), Pizza Hut (double eh), Papa Johns (the best), Custom Pizza.

There is a organic market nearby that has a small cafe. They make pizza there but it is just covered with veggies. My wife likes it but I like meat (rips shirt off and does Tarzan yell)

All the places near me that claim they're 'authentic' all taste like crap. They dump extra oregano (which I hate in large quantities) all over their food and call it 'authentic italian'. Blecch!
I do like Papa John's. My favorite is ham and pineapple. I'm a summer girl, so eating stuff that reminds me of summer is what I do!
My husband is like you, SP--except that he's a Pizza Hut guy. He's all for the Meat Lover's Pizza. What's up with men and meat?

HAD - Tell your husband I have had the meat lovers and like it also but to order a papa johns the way I described. It puts the meat lovers to shame!

I love Jets pizza (Detroit area). But when I'm in Chicago area, Southside it has to be Aurelio's just cheese and Northside, Gino's east Spinach, garlic and tomato pizza. Mmmmmmmm. Now I'm hungry for pizza...thanks!!!

There are a few chains here too but most of them are mediocre. Little Caesar's is basically a low-end chain. So is Dominoes. I ate a lot of both of them while in college since both were cheap.

Pizza Hut isn't that great either but it's not bad. I too love their Meat Lovers' pizza too.

The best chain so far is Round Table (I'm not sure if they are located outside of California). However, Pizza Hut's pizzas taste better as leftovers - Round Tables pizzas decline after the initial serving and they don't make good leftovers.

Ever have pizza in India? Talk about skimping on the meat toppings :)

Still, my fave is South Beach Cafe - not a chain. Every time I go to a Giants game I make it a point to eat there.

I miss Donato's Pizza from Columbus. They cut the Pizza in squares instead of wedges. Excellent the day after.
