Sometimes karma just bites in the a**

So there was this incompetent boss at a former company (the one with all those sneaky snakes). Not my manager but someone above my manager. He was fired from my former company last year.

He is totally incompetent but somehow found another job in 2 months that was a big promotion from his last position. But he went to a small startup. The only thing this guy "B" can do is BS. He can't do anything else. Well, startups are very transparent and everybody knows what everybody else is doing so "B" couldn't work his charade by BS'ing anymore.

He got canned, in a record 9 months. And he's panicking because he can't hold a job for more than 2 years anywhere.

Now, there are incompetent people but this guy isn't just incompetent but an a**hole. He is only concerned about himself. He will backstab you if he thinks it will help him keep his job. He won't stick his neck out for any of his subordinates unless he thinks it will curry favor with his superiors. He sucks up to his superiors as best as he can and ignores anyone he thinks can't help him professionally. Just a snake. He screwed me over

So someone I know calls me and asks "Hey, did you know 'B' when you worked at 'so-and-so'"?

"Of course," I replied. Then gave him a straight picture of how incompetent and how much of an a**hole he was. I gave numerous examples of his behavior.

Looks like my colleague's company was about to set up an interview with him. But after hearing feedback from me, they cancelled it. And I don't think "B" will ever find out.

Sometimes revenge is sweet.

Corporate Ladder Rung: VPbookwoman (10/25/2009)
I love hearing karma stories. Good one.

My husband once worked for a fairly small company in a northern state. The company was poorly run (eventually went out of business). My husband really poured himself into that job and was eventually rewarded by being fired after he found out about some dishonest deals the VP had done.

My husband went on to another company in a different state, in the south. The new company was much larger, international, and had sales in the hundreds of millions. During his first couple years at the second company, he handled a project they put out for bids. He was approached by a salesperson from the first company (still in business, but not doing well at all). This saleperson had not been with the company back when my husband worked there and did not know my husband, knew nothing of my husband's previous association. My husband sat through the salesperson's presentation and pitch, loving every minute of it. He asked the salesperson all kinds of pointed questions, which he already knew the answers to because of his previous employment at the first company, which kind of freaked out the salesperson. My husband told the salesperson he'd be in touch. He eventually called the sales person and told him of his own earlier association with the first company, and said there was no way the first company could ever meet the quality standards required by my husband's current company. Unfortunately for the first company, they would not be getting the multi-million dollar contract they were seeking...

My husband is the nicest guy in the world, but I have to say that he got so much pleasure from the whole situation. Just goes to show that you can piss off someone today who might rain right back on you, on down the road...and it could really, really hurt. If the first company had gotten the bid, it would've saved them.

I work in the Silicon Valley and especially among the tech field, it is "small".

You run into people again at another company so you shouldn't try to deliberately piss others off. I try to treat everyone like I would like to be treated. But at the same time, if you backstab me, I will always remember that and when I can, I will backstab you back.

Served me fine. I haven't made enemies. People made me their enemies by screwing me over but I got back at them (like this guy "B").

There are 2 people at my current job who are a**holes and don't seem to realize that they're making enemies that they will regret when they are looking for a job in the future, but I can't do anything about that.

Your story is serependipitous, to borrow from Dick Vitale.
