Bully Boss is Out to Get Me

Posted on 04/14/2010 by Babe Toutou

I applied for a top-level job and got it. Immediately, the person who did not get it - not the right qualifications - began bullying me. She quit. Her husband began to badmouth me all over town (we live in a small one). He got my boss drunk - not hard to do - and convinced him to go after me. The boss, who generally reeks of booze, is now on a witch hunt.

What's your advice?

sorry but u can only quit or stick it out. try not to hang out with them or tell them anything personal. it will not hurt as much if u know from the begining these people are not ur friends.

Document. Get an attorney. Take 'em to court. Then leave for another job...

Get some support from people who have been down this road and DO NOT GO DIRECTLY TO H.R. -- they will 9 times out of 10 rat you out to the one who you are making the claim against!! Cute, isn't it??!!

The Workplace Bullying Institute has some very good ideas on this issue.

Filing a lawsuit DOES NOT USUALLY END IN VICTORY. It's long, drawn out, terribly expensive for the plaintiff (meaning you), the accused's defense will pull out every little thing about you and distort it the fullest because you are no longer going up again an individual but an organization (your company). They will not think to stop inflicting hurt in your life because the organization takes it personally when you accuse on of their own. Be prepared!!

People think a claim is the be all end all, sue the bastards. THIS IS NOT TRUE!! The person that pays (financially and personally) is almost always (unfortunately) the victim.
Just so you know, there is no law in any state prohibiting workplace bullying. You are on your own in this country according to the law!!

However, that does not mean you cannot get support from people who know what you are going through.

Here's the YouTube channel for the WBI: http://www.youtube.com/user/BullyingInstitute

I've been where you are, there are no easy answers. Prepare yourself, speak to those who know best. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope the bastard(s) that are doing this to you see justice soon.
