Trying to move on

I worked for an employer who consistently denied me professional development and was very evasive when I asked for clarification on job functions. It really stressed me out, being promoted to a new position and then being denied the professional development. I was placed on FMLA by my physician. I was released while on FMLA, because they stated that I did not show up for a meeting while I was out? I new nothing about any scheduled meetings. I did get approved for unemployment. The problem is that I have extensive experience in healthcare, as well as education and certifications. I have been having problems finding a job. I feel as though I am being blackballed by my former employer. What can I do?

labtech (06/03/2010) Looks like you might have a case, given you were on family leave. Find a lawyer that takes a cut of the winnings and get your documents together. And have a friend pose as a potential employer for you - and tape the conversation when he asks about you at your old place of work. Don't expect them to fight fair, they are such rotten people as to fire you when you're out on leave !
