We don't need to replace you - we'll hire your Mini-Me!

When I left a job last year, they decided they didn't need to replace me - they hired my daughter as a temp to do my job! (At WAY less than I was making!) Then, my former co-worker, who "hired" my daughter, dropped a pile of Word documents on her desk and told her to update the content, and, oh, by the way, we need these in HTML - and left for vacation. They knew I wouldn't let my daughter fail, so I trained her via phone and e-mail, and by the time the woman returned from her vacation, my daughter had completed the entire stack of work and had gone looking for more. I'm sure my passive/aggressive former co-worker (who stabbed me in the back so many times that as soon as another opportunity knocked - I was OUTA THERE)was a little bit disappointed that my daughter didn't fall flat on her face...

Working for free? (08/05/2005) It would have been better for your daughter to have left the html work undone. After all, she had no training, and was making much less than you were. All she had to say was I don't know html. Then the boss would have felt the need for a more experienced person, such as YOU. Instead, she got you to work for free. Expect more of the same in the future, as long as you are willing to work for free. lookyLu (08/05/2005) Agreed. But I understand you could hardly say no to helping your daughter out. But really, what they're doing is getting you to do the same work for the price of her salary. It's a messed up situation, but in the end if your daughter is young and needs the experience your daughter will benefit from the job and your help. It sounds like she learned a lot from you and that she's a hard worker if she went looking for more work. AZGEM (08/13/2005) Your daughter is so very lucky to have a mom like you. Even though the company is "stealing" from you both your daughter is going to have more skills and most likely get a much better job in the future. I would have done the same for my kids too.
